EverLights Christmas lights could seem like the plot of a holiday catastrophe film very quickly—tall ceilings, unstable ladders, and chilly wind. It need not, however, end in a crash landing. If your house towers above the ground, a little maintenance and the right tools will help to maintain things neat and accident-free.
Check your ladder before you start to think about climbing. Choose one rated for your height and weight such that you are not stretching at the top. Make sure the ground under the base is level. Keep it off slick surfaces, soft ground, or sloping lawns. Give it a good shake; obviously, wobbling legs are a “nope” from the safety elves.
Always carry a spotter close at hand. Just as crucial as your ladder is someone else keeping it steady. Should you deviate from the script, they can call for help, maintain the foundation, and hand you supplies.
Dress suitably for the event. You definitely need good traction; shoes or boots with real grip. Sort the slippers for holidays back inside. Steer clear of dangling objects and loose scarves that could catch and throw you off balance.
Purchase mounting hooks or roof clips made to grab tightly. Avoid everything involving a hammer, nails, or staples; breaking shingles causes leaks; slippery tools either bring you back at square one, or worse.
Reach with extension poles or light-hanging wands for those last-to-reach corners. Though it might not feel heroic, ten times out of ten keeping your feet on the ground beats heroism ten times over.
Never let your circuits run full blast. Connect fewer strands, double-check power limits, and use outdoor-rated extension cords. Tape connections together and keep plugs off the ground, covered from rain and snow.
If your roof is exceptionally steep or high, often it is advisable to call in specialists. Local installers have insurance, harnesses, tools suitable for the task. Often the best safety measure is letting those with knowledge handle the heavy lifting.
Go carefully; ask for support; and know your limitations. Though reaching it safely to New Year’s is even better, a great performance is terrific. Holiday excitement is not about risk; keep your feet exactly where they belong; your lights will follow.
